On a beautiful day, amid elegantly dressed bystanders, Johannes Brahms is waiting at Vienna’s Northwest-Railway Station for the Steam Train to leave on a journey to Berlin, Leipzig or Hanover, where he will give concerts with some of his works. One would love to be among the crowd, just to feel the flair of these great times…
Since its world premiere in Vienna on December 30, 1877, with Hans Richter conducting, the Second Symphony has become one of Brahms´ most popular works, a bright and buoyant piece, full of sunshine and good cheer.
Listen to Volker Hartung and his Cologne New Philharmonic’s brilliant performance of this masterpiece recorded at Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, Germany.
The String Sextet No. 1 in B flat major was composed in 1860 by Johannes Brahms and premiered in Hanover by an ensemble led by his friend Joseph Joachim. The sextet is scored for two violins, two violas, and two cellos. The Chamber ensemble of the Cologne New Philharmonic, including Volker Hartung at the Viola performed this work at the great acoustics of Cologne’s 11th-century Romanesque church St. Mary's in the Capitol.
Here is the beautiful recording!

It is available in 24-bit/48 kHz HD-Audio Sound.
